180 HR 15 Michelin XAS
The Michelin XAS 180 HR 15 is a great value tyre considering its quality. These tyres are even better value when purchased as sets:
Citroen DS Tyres
When the Citroen DS and Citroen ID were first developed they fitted the 165SR400 Michelin X. with the ID19 and DS19 fitting a 155SR400 Michelin X on the rear.
In 1965, because the DS found itself cruising on motorways at extended high speeds, Michelin, who were major share holders in Citroen, decided to improve the cars directional stability, which let to the invention of the first asymmetric tyre. The XAS. And a special size 180HR15 keeping it nice and tall for the gearing and nice an thin to keep the handling precise.
Pre dominantly in the UK these post 1965 Citroen DS cars fitted the Michelin 180HR15 XAS front and rear. However often there were circumstances where Citroen fitted the smaller 155HR15 Michelin XAS on the rear. Then the pre injection D Super, DS21 and DS23 fitted 165HR15 Michelin XAS. It wasn’t until the introduction of fuel injection that the Citroen DS moved on to a more standardised sized 185HR15 XAS. And currently for the DS21 injection and DS23 injection we have 185HR15 Michelin XVS-P.
Austin Healey Tyres
From the first Austin Healey 100/4, through the 100/6 and including the Big Healey 3000 they fitted 5.90H15 Dunlop RS5 Crossply tyres. However sadly currently Dunlop are not currently making and historic road tyres. The RS5 would really be the only crossply we have recommended for these rear wheel drive sports cars. A 165HR15 Michelin XAS or 165HR15 Pirelli Cinturato CA67 would be the standard replacement for a 5.90 H15 crossply. However we have found that Austin Healey owners like something a little taller, and the 180HR15 Michelin XAS fits the bill perfectly.
It is worth noting that if you have a car that fits either 6.40-15 tyres such as a MK1 or MK2 Jaguar saloon you will find that the 180HR15 Michelin XAS is the prefect tyre for you because it is tall and thin, so keeps your gearing right, but does not make your steering heavy like other radial tyres of the size 185R15 would do.

Had a sidewall fail that took out the tube on 180hr15 Michelin\nCoker tire did not have said tire nor *** said they do not stock that tire.\nDifficult to find that tire in the States. I run that tire on *** *** 62 BT 7\nand that tire brings back the true handling and ride of the car.
