Mercedes-Benz 380 SLC C107 Tyres

Mercedes-Benz 380 SLC C107

Mercedes 380 107 Series 1971–1989

  • The Mercedes 380 SL (R107), a lightweight convertible, was released on 6.5J-14 wheels and 205/70 R14 tyres. In this size, we recommend the 205/70 WR 14 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36.
  • The Mercedes SLC (C107), a fixed-roof coupe, was released on the same 6.5J-14 wheels and 205/70R14 tyres. In this size, the 205/70 WR 14 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36 is the best option.
  • The 205/70VR14 Michelin XWX provides a robust alternative that provides the same W speed rating (rated for speeds up to 168 mph) that is held by the 205/70 WR 14 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36.
  • The correct size of innertube for these tyres is 14F. We recommend Michelin's tubes because we find them to be the best. If you decide to fit tubes for these tyres, the Michelin 14F is the best option.
  • Some Mercedes-Benz 380SL and SLC cars were offered 150TR wheels as a performance upgrade. If you have these wheels, we recommend 220/55 R390 tyres. The 220/55 WR 390 Michelin TRX is the ideal option for this car.
1982 Mercedes 380 SE W126 Tyres

1982 Mercedes-Benz 380 SE W126 Saloon

Mercedes-Benz 380 W126 1979–1991

  • The first W126 380SE fitted 6.5J-14 wheels and 205/70 R14 tyres. In this size, we can recommend the 205/70 WR 14 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36.
  • The Mercedes 380 SEC fitted 205/70 R14 tyres; we recommend the 205/70 WR 14 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36.
  • The ideal W126 Mercedes 380 SEL tyre is the 205/70 WR 14 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36.
  • We recommend the 205/70VR14 Michelin XWX as a fine alternative to the CN36.
  • The correct tube for these tyres is the Michelin 14F.
  • Some W126 Mercedes-Benz 380 models fitted 150TR wheels and 220/55 R390 tyres. In this size, we can recommend the 220/55 WR 390 Michelin TRX.

Michelin TRX Tyres

Mercedes-Benz 380 SL R107 Tyres

Mercedes-Benz 380 SL R107

Introduced by Michelin in 1975, the Michelin TRX tyre was a revolutionary development in tyre technology, offering super-low profiles for improved directional stability and longevity.

Featuring a new millimetric rim profile, the TRX allowed for a more even distribution of tension across the tyre casing, enhancing grip and vehicle safety. This innovation, embodying a flatter rim flange and a perfect complement between the tyre and rim, led to better handling and comfort.

The TRX tyre was used by notable teams in Formula 1 and World Rally Championships, including Renault with driver Alain Prost and the legendary Audi Quattro. Many high-performance vehicles from the 1970s and 1980s are still equipped with these tyres, which are now manufactured using modern techniques and materials.

Mercedes-Benz 380 History

The Mercedes 380 model was an integral part of Mercedes-Benz's line-up across several series, including the R107, C107, and W126. Each series brought something unique to the automotive market during their production times.

R107 (SL-Class)

The R107 series, marketed as the SL-Class, was a two-seat convertible with a detachable roof and a classic design that lasted from 1971 to 1989. It was the second longest single series ever produced by Mercedes-Benz after the G-Class. The 380SL was introduced as part of the R107 series, offering a V8 engine that provided a blend of performance and luxury. The R107 gained a reputation for its durability and was a popular choice among convertibles of its time.

C107 (SLC-Class)

The C107, known as the SLC-Class, was the coupe version of the R107 and shared many of the same chassis components. The 380SLC, introduced in the series in 1980, came with an updated 3.8-liter V8 engine. This model was part of a mild refresh that also saw a shift from a 3-speed to a 4-speed automatic transmission. The 380SLC was produced until 1981 when it was replaced by the new W126 series coupés.

W126 (S-Class)

The W126 series was a line of flagship vehicles produced from 1979 to 1992, known as the S-Class. It brought advancements in fuel efficiency, safety, and comfort to Mercedes-Benz's luxury segment. The 380SE, SEL, and SEC models were introduced in this series, featuring a smaller 3.8-liter V8 compared to the larger engines available in the lineup. The 380SE and SEL were sedans, while the 380SEC was a stylish coupe, all of which became known for their understated elegance and advanced engineering for the time.

Throughout their production, the Mercedes 380 models in each series embodied the manufacturer's commitment to luxury, performance, and groundbreaking automotive technology. They remain appreciated by collectors and enthusiasts for their contribution to the legacy of Mercedes-Benz vehicles.
