History of the Autobianchi A111

The Autobianchi A11 was the largest car the small-car-specialist company had ever developed at around 4 metres long. The car had the then-modern front wheel drive transverse engine layout that the Fiat 128 and Autobianchi Primula had been used to develop. The car changed from the 128 and Primula's previous fastback and hatchback designs to a 3-box styling. Due to Fiat's styling team being overworked, the A111 utilised a design for the previously dismissed Fiat 123 E4 albeit with a few reworks in the front end. The whole design of the car takes inspiration from the Primula, 124 and 128. The engine used was the Primula Coupe S's 1.4L BLC straight-four. As Fiat brought in more and more FWD vehicles over the years, Autobianchi was used less and less for Fiat's innovations. The A111 left production in 1972 with a total of 56,984 vehicles manufactured in total.
