1964 Renault R8 1100 Sedan

Renault 8 1962–1973

  • The best tyre for the Renault 8 is 135 SR 15 Michelin ZX.
  • These tyres are best fit with a set of Michelin 15CB innertubes.
  • Some people like a larger tyre in which case a 145 SR 15 Michelin XZX would be the other best option.
  • For these tyres the Michelin 15E is the ideal innertube.
  • The R8 fitted tube-type wheels throughout production, innertubes are required for these wheels, even if you fit tubeless radial tyres.
  • Our recommended tyre pressures for your Renault R8 are 135R15 20psi front and 30psi rear. With the 145R15 we suggest18psi on the front 28psi rear.

History of the Renault 8

The Renault 8 was a compact family automobile that was built between 1962 and 1973. It was based on the Renault Dauphine. The styling was attractively boxy; yet, despite the fact that the Renault 8 was 30 mm narrower than the Dauphine, the manufacturer was able to install thick cushioned front seats that were 60 mm wider, at 560 mm, than those found in the Dauphine. The 8 was powered by a brand-new 956 cc Cléon-Fonte engine that produced 43 horsepower. The engine of the R8 followed in the footsteps of the previously debuted Renault 4 by integrating a sealed-for-life cooling system. The installation of four-wheel disc brakes, a first for a saloon car of this size, was a distinguishing feature of the French-made models.
