Daimler Double 6 1972–1997
Daimler Double Six Tyres
- The first Daimler Double-6 fitted ER/70R15 or 205/70VR15 tyres. They are the same sized tyre, the measurements are just expressed differently.
- We would suggest that the best tyres in the size 205/70R15 are 205/70 R 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN12, 205/70 VR 15 Michelin XWX and 205/70 WR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO P5.
- We would recommend the 205/70 WR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO P5 for the early Daimler Double-Six because the P5 is the tyre that Jaguar has chosen to homologate for these cars.
- For these tyres the Michelin 15F is the correct innertube.
- Post 1981 the series 3 Daimler Double-six fitted a half inch wider wheel, and fitted 215/70 WR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO P5.
- The Michelin 15/17H is the correct size of innertube for these tyres.
- It wasn’t by accident that Jaguar used the P5. Here is the story of Jaguar testing the P5 on an XJ12.
- Our period Innertube Guides suggest that all double 6 models were released on tubeless wheels, so innertubes are not a requirement providing there are no punctures, the tyres are also tubeless, and the wheel rims are in good condition.
Daimler Double Six Sovereign Tyres
- We are fortunate to have such a wide range of suitable tyres for a V12 Daimler Double 6 Sovereign, however the 215/70WR15 Pirelli Cinturato P5 carries the ‘J’. Jaguar themselves have tested these tyres and are more than happy to recommend them.
- The 215/70 WR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO P5 was also the original equipment used back in 1979.
- This shows that the 215/70 WR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO P5 is the perfect tyre for the Double – 6.

History of the Daimler Double-Six
Built 1972-1983 the Daimler Double-Six took the Jaguar XJ saloon and its exciting V12 and put a Daimler twist on it, with a 5343cc V12 Engine creating an awfully thirsty but incredibly fast and refined drive.
