Armstrong Siddeley Sapphire

Armstrong Siddeley Sapphire Tyres

  • The Armstrong Siddeley Sapphire was produced from 1952 to 1960, boasting the distinctive traditional Armstrong Siddeley V-shaped radiator grille with the mounted Sphinx motif.
  • Originally the Sapphire fitted 640 - 15 crossply tyres, with the saloon models instead fitting 670 - 16 tyres.
  • If you desire crossplies then we can recommend the 640 H 15 Avon Super Safety and the 6.70 x 16 Firestone for their respective sizes.
  • We recommend instead fitting the 185 VR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO â„¢ CA67, as they are a genuine period radial tyre of excellent quality.
  • The fitment of a radial tyre will improve the car's directional stability and be more sure-footed on the road. They will reduce the wandering effect which is very helpful when cruising at higher speeds on modern roads.
  • Fitting the 185 VR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATOâ„¢ CA67, a genuine period radial of the correct diameter, will achieve this whilst keeping the steering lighter than other radial tyres of this size, making it an excellent choice when buying new rubber for your classic Armstrong Siddeley.
  • Tubeless tyres were not commonly used in this era, the original equipment wheels were standard tube-type or wire wheels. Either wheel type requires an innertube to function.
  • The Michelin 15F is the ideal Armstrong Siddeley Sapphire innertube for these tyres.

Classic Armstrong Siddeley Sapphire

The classic Armstrong Siddeley Sapphire was a large post-war saloon automobile manufactured by the British firm Armstrong Siddeley. The V-shaped radiator with the winged Armstrong Siddeley sphinx icon placed on top was a distinguishing feature of the Sapphires. On some editions, the sphinx was equipped with jet engines on its flanks. There were a number of Sapphire models produced between 1952 and 1960 when the company ceased car production.
