Ferrari 308 GTSI Tyres

  • Ferrari introduced the fuel injection system to its 308 GTS cars in 1980, which is shown by the little "i" in their name. By this time Michelin had made an enormous leap forward in tyre technology, developing their new TRX range of tyres. Ferrari 308 GTSi fitted the 220/55VR390 Michelin TRX which, fortunately is still made by Michelin.
  • It is possible for an early Ferrari 308 GTSi to have 205/70VR14 Michelin XWX fitted.
  • It is worth mentioning that over the years things get changed and it is worth checking that you have 390mm wheels on your car before buying these tyres.
  • The Michelin 14F is the best fitting innertube for your 205/70 R14 tyres.
  • Tyres with a profile below 70% (e.g 220/55VR390 Michelin TRX) cannot fit innertubes.
  • It was also an option to fit 16” wheels with 205/55YR16 PIRELLI CINTURATO P7 & 225/50 YR 16 PIRELLI CINTURATO P7.

History of the Ferrari 308 GTSi

The 308 GTBi and GTSi were launched in 1980 with Bosch K-Jetronic mechanical fuel injection; emissions were decreased, but power was dropped to 211 bhp on European models and 202 bhp on federalized variants. The fuel injection system was coupled to a Marelli MED 803A Digiplex electronic ignition system, which featured a coil, distributor, and ignition module for each cylinder bank.

The car looked similar to the 308 GTB/GTS on the outside, with the addition of metric-sized wheels with a slightly different design. The clock and oil temperature gauge were relocated to the centre console, along with a new black steering wheel with three perforated spokes and new seats with a different pattern. 1743 GTSis were manufactured before it was succeeded by the 308 Quattrovalvole.
