BMW 503 Tyres
- For the BMW 503 the original equipment would have been a 640 - 15 crossply, however if you want a radial tyre Longstone suggests the 185 VR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO â„¢ CA67.
- For these tyres we suggest fitting the Michelin 15F Offset Valve innertube.
- Some editions of the 504 fitted 600 - 16 tyres. In this size we recommend fitting a set of 6.00-16 PIRELLI STELLA BIANCA tyres.
- The ideal innertube for these tyres is the Michelin 16F innertube.
History of the BMW 503
Based on BMW's 501, the BMW 503 Coupe featured a new body designed by Albrecht Goertz with the intention of being sold on the American market. The 503 utilised the 3.2 L version of the 502's V8 engine built for the 3.2 sedan, but with two carburettors and a better lubrication system utilising a chain-driven oil pump. The V8 in the 503 had a compression ratio of 7.5:1 and produced 140 horsepower at 4800 rpm.
The 503 came standard with sixteen-inch wheels and a 3.90:1 final drive ratio, with a 3.42:1 final drive ratio available as an option. The 503's acceleration from a standstill to 62 mph was measured at 13 seconds; the 503's maximum speed is around 115 miles per hour. Despite its impressive speed and lovely looks, the expense meant it sadly didn't take off and only 412 were built from 1955-1959 putting BMW near bankruptcy by the end of the 1950s.
