ASCONA A (1970–1975)

• The 1970–1975 Ascona 1.2 N and 1.2 S fitted 155 R13 tyres as original equipment. We recommend the 155R13 PIRELLI CINTURATO CA67 as the ideal classic tyre for the Opel Ascona 1.2. The 155 HR 13 Michelin XAS FF is also an excellent tyre in the 155 R13 size.
• The 1970–1975 Ascona 1.6 N, 1.6 S and 1.9 S fitted 165 R13 tyres, with 175/70 R13 as an optional sporty size. The best 165 R13 classic tyre for the Opel Ascona is the 165R13 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36. The 165 HR 13 Michelin XAS FF is also a good option. Longstone recommends the 175/70 VR 13 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36 as the best period-correct tyre for sporty fitment.
• The 1973–1975 Ascona SR fitted 175/70 R13 tyres as standard. 185/70 R13 was a rally fitment option. Longstone recommends the 175/70 VR 13 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36 for the oe size. A perfect match for the Ascona SR is the 185/70 VR 13 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36, echoing its original sporty fitment. The 185/70 R 13 Michelin XDX is also worth considering.
• The Ascona A Voyage Estate models fitted 155 R13 or 165 R13 depending on engine size. We recommend the 155R13 PIRELLI CINTURATO CA67 as the correct factory fitment. The 155 HR 13 Michelin XAS FF is another highly regarded choice. The best period-correct tyre in 165 R13 is the 165R13 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36. The 165 HR 13 Michelin XAS FF is also a good option.

ASCONA B (1975–1981)

• The 1975–1981 Ascona 1.2 N and 1.2 S fitted 155 R13 tyres as standard, with 165 R13 optional. Longstone recommends the 155R13 PIRELLI CINTURATO CA67 as the original tyre fitment. The 155 HR 13 Michelin XAS FF is also a good option. The best 165 R13 period tyre is the 165R13 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36 and the 165 HR 13 Michelin XAS FF is a solid alternative.
• The 1975–1981 Ascona 1.6 N, 1.6 S and 1.9 S fitted 165 R13 or 175/70 R13 tyres, with 185/70 R13 optional for the 1.9 S. The ideal period-correct tyre for 165 R13 is the 165R13 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36. The 165 HR 13 Michelin XAS FF is also a good option.
• For sportier fitment, Longstone recommends the 175/70 VR 13 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36 as the best match. The 185/70 VR 13 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36 is the correct original tyre fitment for higher-spec trims. The 185/70 R 13 Michelin XDX is also a strong performer in this size.

• The Ascona SR, SR/E, 2.0 S and 2.0 E fitted 185/70 R13 tyres as standard. 195/60 R14 tyres were optional with sport wheels. Longstone recommends the 185/70 VR 13 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36 as a period-correct fitment. The 185/70 R 13 Michelin XDX is another good choice. The best classic tyre in the 195/60 R14 size is the 195/60 VR 14 Michelin MXV3-A.
• The Ascona B Voyage estate fitted 155 R13 or 165 R13 for 1.2–1.6 engines and 175/70 R13 for 1.9–2.0 engines. For 155 R13, we recommend the PIRELLI CINTURATO CA67. • The 1980–1981 Ascona 400 homologation model fitted 205/60 R13 tyres on Ronal 13" wheels. A 225/45 R13 option was used in competition only. Longstone recommends the 205/60VR13 Dunlop Sport Classic as a road-suitable fitment. Longstone's recommended 225/45 R13 tyres are the 225/45 R 13 PIRELLI P7 CORSA CLASSIC WET, 225/45HR13 PIRELLI P7 CORSA CLASSIC D7, 225/45 R 13 PIRELLI P7 CORSA CLASSIC D5, 225/45 HR 13 PIRELLI P7 CORSA CLASSIC D3, or 20/53 - 13 (225/45 R 13) Michelin TB15+ from Michelin. However these are racing tyres, they are road legal but not really appropriate for long-term road use.

ASCONA C (1981–1988)

• The 1981–1982 Ascona 1.3 N and 1.3 S originally fitted 165 R13 tyres, later updated to 175/70 R13. The best OE-style classic tyre for 165 R13 is the 165R13 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36. The ideal period tyre for 175/70 R13 is the 175/70 VR 13 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36.
• The 1981–1988 Ascona 1.6 N, 1.6 S and 1.6 D fitted 175/70 R13 tyres, with 165 R13 found on earlier diesels. The 175/70 VR 13 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36 is a strong choice as the original tyre fitment. For early diesels, the 165R13 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36 is ideal. The 165 HR 13 Michelin XAS FF is a good option.
• The Ascona 1.8 S and 1.8 E fitted 185/70 R13 tyres. We recommend the 185/70 VR 13 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36 as a the best classic tyre in size.
• The Ascona GT, GTJ, and SR (1.6 SR, 1.8 SRi) fitted 195/60 R14 tyres on 5½ J x 14 wheels. The ideal period fitment is the 195/60 VR 14 Michelin MXV3-A.
• The Ascona C Caravan estate fitted 165 R13 or 175/70 R13 tyres on 1.3–1.6 and diesel engines. GT Caravan models used 185/65 R14 tyres. The 185/65 R14 size is yet to fall into the classic tyre range, ask your local tyre shop!
• From 1985 to 1988, most Opel Ascona C models retained their original tyre fitments, a few late-production models received updates. Base models moved from 155 R13 to 165 R13 by 1987, and mid-range trims such as the GL and GLS, along with diesel variants, upgraded from 165 R13 to 185/70 R13 in 1988.
