1953 Fiat 8V Demon Rouge

1953 Fiat 8V Demon Rouge

Fiat 8V 1952–1954

  • The best Fiat 8V tyre to fit for the standard millimetric Fiat 8V wheels is the 165HR400 PIRELLI CINTURATO CA67, the CA67 is a period correct classic car tyre, it was the first radial tyre designed specifically for sports cars, making it ideal for the 1950s Fiat 8V tyre.
  • The 165 SR 400 Michelin X is another good option in this size, but the Michelin X does not share the same sporting pedigree as the CA67.
  • The best fitting tube for 165 R400 tyres is the Michelin 16E innertube.
  • Fiat cars of this era ran tube-type wheels and fitted innertubes. If you have the original wheels, wire wheels, or any other tube-type wheels then innertubes are needed.
  • Borrani wire wheels are available for the Fiat 8V, see the bottom of the page for more information.

History of the Fiat 8V

The Fiat 8V (or "Otto Vu") is a V8-powered sports vehicle manufactured by the Italian automaker Fiat from 1952 to 1954. The vehicle debuted at the 1952 Geneva Motor Show. The Fiat 8V earned its moniker because Fiat believed Ford held a patent on the term "V8" at the time it was created. The 8V was a commercial failure, selling just 114 units, although it performed admirably in racing. Aside from the differential, the vehicle had no parts in common with the other Fiats (but many parts were made by Siata. Dante Giacosa and the stylist Luigi Rapi developed the 8V.

The Fiat V8 had a 70-degree V arrangement, a displacement of 1,996 cc, and two twin-choke Weber 36 DCF 3 carburettors. The engine, in its first iteration, the type 104.000, had an 8.5:1 compression ratio and generated 104 horsepower at 5,600 rpm, allowing the automobile a maximum speed of 118 mph, the 8V also boasted an impressive all-synchro gearbox.
