De Tomaso Mangusta Tyres
De-Tomaso Mangusta 1967–1971
- The De Tomaso Mangusta was produced between 1967 and 1971, with only 401 models produced in total.
- The original 1967 De Tomaso Mangusta tyres were 185 R15 on the front and 225 R15 tyres (no longer made) on the rear rear.
- The First Mangusta came fitted with Dunlop tyres, later they moved onto Pirelli.
- Currently there is not a classic sports car tyre in the size 225R15.
- We currently suggest the best tyres for a De Tomaso Mangusta are 205/70 R 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN12 front and 255/60 WR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN12 rear.
- For 185 R15 & 205/70 R15 tyres the Michelin 15F innertube is the correct fit.
- In a Classic Car Tyre Test by a German automotive magazine, a Jaguar E-Type was used to compare tyre performance. The PIRELLI CINTURATO™ CN12 was deemed the best 205/70 R15 classic tyre for classic cars without power steering.
We suggest the PIRELLI CINTURATO ™ CN12 because a 205/70VR15 tyre is the same diameter as a 185VR15, and a 255/60VR15 is approximately the same diameter as a 225R15 or a 235R15. These CN12 options offer the same tread pattern front and rear, and they are actually better suited to the standard 7” & 8” wheel rims on a Mangusta.

History of the De Tomaso Mangusta
After the De Tomaso Deauville failed to gain popularity the company tried again with a similar design built from 1972-1989, the De Tomaso Longchamo. Based on the Mercedes Benz 450SLC the car too sadly didn't capture the public's attention. Later on after gaining control of Maserati the car would be rebadged as a De Tomaso Kyalami with a Maserati V8 engine.
