Ferrari 365 GTB/4 1968–1973

This short film should be informative about the tyre options for a Daytona. Since this film was made the Pirelli P4000 is no longer made. However, Pirelli do now make a 215/70WR15 CINTURATO CN12
  • The Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona originally fitted 215/70VR15 Michelin XWX, which we would suggest is still the best tyre.
  • The only other tyre we would consider for the 365 GTB 4 would be the 215/70 WR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN12.
  • Some cars fitted larger 9” Borrani wheels on the rear, the best tyre for that size is 225/70VR15 Michelin XWX.
  • The Michelin 15/17H will be the best fitting innertube for these tyres.
  • Our period Innertube Guides offer conflicting information regarding Daytona innertubes. Michelin's 1974 Guide suggests tube-type wheels, but 1977 states tubeless, interesting given the Daytona halted production in 1973.
  • Some Daytona models fitted wire wheels, if you have these wheels then innertubes must be fitted.
  • The period Michelin fitment guide suggests for normal use 35psi front and 39 psi rear. For high speed and fully loaded the suggestion is 4psi front & 45psi rear.
  • When fitting the 225/70-15 as a rear tyre, you may drop the high speed tyre pressures by 2psi on the rear.

Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona Tyres

The Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona originally came with 215/70 WR 15 Michelin XWX tyres fitted front and rear. The Michelin XWX range of tyres are extremely robust and can withstand extremely powerful cars, as well as having the highest speed rating of the '60s and '70s. This is of course why they have been fitted to so many fabulous cars of that period.

The Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona Convertible, like its later successor, the 365 GTB 4 Berlinetta Boxter, are two examples of some of the cars that have the option of fitting an optional wider rear wheel which they fitted with a 225/70 WR 15 Michelin XWX tyre. When fitting these as the larger rear tire, you may drop the high speed tyre pressures by 2psi on the rear.

There are also options of Dunlop Racing tyres that can be supplied in varying front and rear sizes. For more specific advice please give us a ring 00 44 1302 711123. It is worth bearing in mind that although these Dunlop Racing tyres do without a doubt look cool and handle in a manner like nothing else, they are not road legal, as the carcass is designed for the track, which is a very different environment to driving on the track.

Tyre safety is very important to us at Longstone Tyres. Here is our tyre safety test. I hope we can all learn something from this:
