Alvis TE21 Tyres

  • The Alvis TE 21 was produced from 1963 to 1966, with only 352 ever produced.
  • Longstone classic tyres recommend the 185 VR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO CA67  for your classic Alvis TE21, as they are a genuine radial tyre of the period.
  • The fitment of a radial tyre will improve directional stability and be more sure-footed on the road. This diminishes the wandering effect, which is highly desirable on modern roads with much higher cruising speeds than in period.
  • Fitting the 185 VR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO CA67, a genuine period radial of the correct diameter, will do all the above whilst also keeping the steering lighter than other radial tyres in this size, making it an easy choice when buying new rubber for your classic Alvis.
  • The 185 VR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO CA67 is a tubeless tyre, it does not need an innertube to function. However if your TE21 is on wire wheels or tube-type wheels, an innertube must be fitted.
  • For this tyre Longstone offers the Michelin 15F as the best TE21 innertube, as Michelin innertubes are typically the best in the business.

History of the Alvis TE21

The body was a modified version of the TC108G designed by Graber of Switzerland and manufactured by Park Ward, with twin headlamps positioned one above the other. There were saloon and drophead variants offered. The lack of colourful side trim or creases sculpted into the body components was a notable characteristic of the design. The windscreen was one piece, curved, and not very steeply slanted.

The iconic Alvis 1950 TA21's 2993 cc engine was given a reworked cylinder head and manifold, increasing output to 130 horsepower. There was a choice of automatic or five-speed ZF gearboxes. The suspension was independent in the front, with coil springs, and leaf springs in the back. All four wheels were outfitted with disc brakes. To minimise effort, recirculating-ball steering gear was used, and power steering became available in late 1964. Although the TE21 was superseded by the iconic Alvis TF21 in 1966, it was still available for special order until 1967.
