BMW 1800, 2000 Tyres

BMW 2000 Neue Klasse
BMW 1800/2000 Neue Klasse 1963−1972
- The BMW 1800 Neue Klasse fitted 6.00-14 crossply tyres as original equipment. High-quality crossply tyres are not currently made in this size.
- The BMW 2000 Neue Klasse fitted either 6.00-14 crossply tyres or 165 R14 radial tyres as original equipment.
- we suggest fitting 165 R14 radial tyres, which are more suited to modern roads and also handle better.
- For both the BMW 1800 and the BMW 2000 Neue Klasse, Longstone recommends the 165 HR 14 PIRELLI CINTURATO CA67 as the most ideal radial tyre to fit.

- We have a dedicated page for the BMW 2000C & 2000CS, and a page that covers the whole BMW Neue Klasse range.
- The BMW 1800 Ti originally fitted 165 R14 tyres, however for the Ti and powerful sporting variants a 185/70 R14 tyre would be better suited.
- Our recommended 185/70 R14 tyre is the 185/70 VR 14 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36.
- The 185/70 VR 14 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36 can also be fitted as a wider, low-profile alternative tyre to models originally with 165 R14 tyres.

BMW 1800 & 2000 Innertubes
- For 165 R14 tyres, the Michelin 14D is the innertube of choice.
- 185/70 R14 tyres can be fitted with Michelin 14E innertubes.
- See the period tyre fitment information from Michelin and Pirelli in our Period Fitment Guides below.
History of the BMW 1800
Introduced in September 1963, the BMW 1800 was the second member of the New Class (Neue Klasse) family. This model had an M10 engine with a 84 mm (3.3 in) bore and 80 mm (3.1 in) stroke with a displacement of 1,773 cc, a power output of 90 hp at 5,250 revolutions per minute, and a torque output of 96 lb·ft (130 N·m) at 3,000 revolutions per minute.
In 1966, an automatic gearbox option was added, and in 1967, the 1800 was generally upgraded along with the 2000. Minor interior alterations were made, as well as aesthetic adjustments to the front grilles. The 1800's 1,773 cc engine was replaced in 1968 by an engine with the 2.0 L engine's 89 mm (3.5 in) bore and the original 71 mm (2.8 in) stroke, producing a displacement of 1,766 cc with a stroke/bore ratio of 0.798:1 instead of the previous 1800 engine's ratio of 0.952:1.
History of the BMW 2000
The 2000 was designed as an upmarket version of the 1800, with distinguishing broad taillights, additional external decoration, and distinctive rectangular headlamps. Due to government limitations on imports sold in the nation, the American version of the 2000 sedans could not feature these characteristic rectangular headlights. In the United States, a variant grille with four separate round headlights, similar to the style used later in the 2500 sedan, was available.
The '1800' taillights and headlights remained on the 2000TI. A more opulent 2000TI-lux (later "tilux") model combined the sporty TI engine with a higher-quality interior and accessories, including a wood dashboard and optional leather seats. In 1969, BMW introduced the 2000tii ('touring international, injected'), BMW's first fuel-injected model, featuring Kugelfischer mechanical fuel injection. 1,952 2000tii cars were built of this final New Class sedan model.
