Morgan Plus 4 Tyres

Morgan Plus 4 1950–1969
- Longstone classic tyres recommend the 165-15 Michelin XAS or 165 HR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO CA67 for your classic Morgan plus 4.
- We recommend the classic Michelin XAS as it is a correct period classic tyre that offers outstanding levels of grip due to its asymmetric carcase structure.
- The Michelin XAS also offers exceptional directional stability which diminishes the wandering effect needed on today's faster roads.
- We also suggest the 165 HR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO CA67, it is an exceptionally high quality, genuine period tyre made by one of the world's best tyre manufacturers.
- Cars of this era fitted tube-type wheels as standard. For these tyres the Michelin 15E is the ideal innertube.
1968 Morgan Plus 4
History of the Morgan +4
The Morgan Plus 4 was produced between 1950 and 1969 as a bigger and more powerful version of the Morgan Motor Company's 4/4 vehicle. The model was reintroduced in 1985 and served as a bridge between the 4/4 and the Plus 8 until 2000; it was restored again in 2005. Morgan reintroduced their iconic 4/4 model with a 1267 cc Standard engine after WWII. This was produced until 1950 when it was superseded by the bigger Plus 4, which was introduced at the 1950 Earl's Court Motor Show. The 4/4 model was reintroduced in the phase II version in 1955.
The Plus 4 received a 2088 cc engine based on the Standard Vanguard, which was housed in a stronger and longer frame. For the first time on a Morgan, hydraulic brakes, initially, entirely drum, were installed. In 1953, a higher performance version with the 1991 cc I4 engine utilised in the iconic Triumph TR3 was launched. The radiator grill was now encased in a cowl that merged in with the bonnet. Front disc brakes were introduced as an option in 1959 and became standard in 1960. Since 1962, the engine has been a classic Triumph TR4 unit.
