Simca Aronde 1951–1964

    Simca Aronde

    Simca Aronde

  • Produced from 1959 to 1963, the Simca released many different iterations of the Aronde, with a variety of different tyre sizes.
  • The smallest tyres ever fitted to an Aronde were 5.50 - 12, the only tyre available in this size is the 5.50 x 12 Camac. The best fitting innertube for this tyre is the Michelin 12D Offset Valve innertube.
  • Some editions fitted 15" wheels and 550 - 15 crossply tyres, of which we would recommend the 5.50 x 15 Excelsior.
  • Some Simca Aronde models fitted 560 - 15 crossply tyres. Of these we would suggest the 5.60 x 15 Firestone.
  • The Aronde fitted tube-type wheels, innertubes are required for these wheels, even if you fit a tubeless radial tyre.
  • For these tyres we suggest the Michelin 15E innertube.
  • The largest size fitted according to our period fitment guides is 650 - 15. In this size we can recommend the 670 H 15 Avon Turbospeed, or the 6.70 x 15 General Whitewall if you want a whitewall tyre.
  • The Michelin 15/17H will be the best fitting tube for these tyres.
  • Many people prefer to fit a radial tyre where possible as they are much better suited to modern roads. For a Simca Aronde on 14" wheels a set of 165 HR 14 Michelin XAS is a great radial tyre for the lovely Aronde.
  • Another great option for the Aronde is the 165 HR 14 PIRELLI CINTURATO CA67, for which there is a special offer when bought in Sets of 4 or Set of 5.
  • For these tyres the Michelin 14D is the ideal innertube.
  • If you have a 15" wheel Aronde then our radial recommendation would be the 155 HR 15 Michelin XAS FF.
  • For these tyres we suggest the Michelin 15E innertube.

History of the Simca Aronde

The first Aronde appeared in the spring of 1951, but only a few hundred pre-production cars were handed to selected purchasers, and the full production version was completed only in time for the Paris Motor Show, being available for purchase in October 1951.

The Aronde was powered by a front-mounted 1221 cc 44.5 horsepower engine from the preceding Simca model, the Simca 8, with gasoline supplied by a Solex 32 carburettor. Engine power was sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission with synchromesh on the top three gears. The front suspension was independent, with coil springs, while the rear axle was live, with semi-elliptic leaf springs. All around, hydraulically powered 9.85 in drum brakes were employed.

The 9 Aronde garnered favourable reviews, particularly in France. In 1951, the British Motor magazine tested an automobile in France that had a peak speed of 73.9 mph and could accelerate from 0-60 mph in 30.2 seconds. The fuel usage was 34.1 miles per imperial gallon. On the French market, the test vehicle was said to cost 970 Francs. It was not available in the UK at the time, so the price was adjusted to £657.
