Lotus 7 on 145HR13 PIRELLI CINTURATO CA67 PIRELLI CINTURATO CA67 Tyres

Lotus Seven 1957–1973

  • When Colin Chapman first developed the Lotus 7 it fitted 15" wheels and tyres from 1957 to 1961, with 5.20-15 crossply tyres as OE.
  • 5.20-15 crossply tyres are no longer made, we suggest switching to an equivalent radial size; 135 R15, 145 R15, or 155 R15.
  • We recommend 155 R15 tyres, as it allows for the fitment of the 155HR15 PIRELLI CINTURATO CA67.
  • The 155HR15 PIRELLI CINTURATO CA67 is a fantastic, sports oriented classic car tyre that was the original tyre for the Lotus Elite. No other compatible classic tyre has the sporting pedigree deserving of the Lotus 7.

  • In 1961 the Lotus 7 switched to 13" wheels, and 520 - 13 crossply tyres.
  • The best radial alternative for a 520-13 crossply would be a 145HR13 PIRELLI CINTURATO CA67.
  • The ideal innertube for this tyre is the Michelin 13CG innertube.
  • Some owners like to fit larger tyres. Though we recommend fitting the original size, if you desire wider tyres we suggest the 155R13 PIRELLI CINTURATO CA67.

  • Later Lotus 7s started to fit larger tyres such as 155 R13 or 165 R13.
  • The 155R13 PIRELLI CINTURATO CA67, or the 155 HR 13 Michelin XAS FF are the best 155 R13 Lotus 7 tyres.
  • The 165R13 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36 is the best 165 R13 Lotus 7 tyre.
  • These tyres would best fit a Michelin 13D innertube.
  • Wider low-profile alternatives would be 175/70 VR 13 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36 or 185/70 VR 13 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36.
  • These tyres would best fit a Michelin 13E innertube.
  • Our period Innertube Guides suggest that some later models of the Lotus 7 were released on tubeless wheels. See below to find your year and model, or for more information, see our Innertube Guide.

History of the Lotus 7

Between 1957 and 1972, Lotus Cars developed the Lotus Seven, a compact, basic, lightweight two-seater open-top sports automobile. Lotus founder Colin Chapman developed it, and it is regarded as the essence of the Lotus concept of performance through lightweight and simplicity. Due to its appeal as a road-legal automobile that could be used for clubman racing, the first model was a huge success, selling over 2,500 units.

The Lotus Seven replaced the Mark VI as the 'entry-level' Lotus automobile in 1957. The name 'Seven' was drawn from a vehicle that Lotus abandoned, a Riley-powered single-seater that Lotus planned to compete into Formula Two in 1952 or 1953. However, its sponsors built a sports vehicle on Chapman's chassis and dubbed it the Clairmonte Special. The Lotus Seven was powered by a 40 horsepower Ford Side-valve 1,172 cc inline-four engine, comparable to Chapman's previous Lotus Mark VI, but with a distinctive tubular frame reminiscent of the Lotus Eleven. It was used for road racing as well as club racing.
