Lotus 11 Le Mans 4 cylinder 1098cc

Lotus 11 Le Mans 4 cylinder 1098cc

Lotus Eleven 1956–1958

  • The Lotus 11 fitted a 145-15 Tyre front and a 165-15 Tyre on the rear, we have found the Michelin XZX to be the best road tyre option available.
  • We recommend fitting the 145 SR 15 Michelin XZX to the front and 165 SR 15 Michelin XZX on the rear.
  • For these tyres the Michelin 15E innertube is the correct size.
  • Cars of this era fitted tube-type wheels and innertubes, wire wheels also require innertubes in order to function.

History of the Lotus 11

The Lotus Eleven is a sports racing car produced by Lotus from 1956 to 1958 in various configurations. Although this was not an official name, subsequent models manufactured in 1958 are frequently referred to as Lotus 13.   In all, around 270 Elevens of all variants were produced. Colin Chapman created the Eleven, which has a streamlined fuselage designed by aerodynamicist Frank Costin. Its flagship model, named Le Mans, was equipped with a 1100 cc Coventry Climax FWA engine and, on occasion, a 1500 cc Coventry Climax FWB engine set in front of a tubular space frame and equipped with a De Dion rear axle and Girling disc brakes.

The automobile weighed just approximately 1,000 lb when fully loaded (450 kg). There were alternative versions with a 1100 cc Climax engine and a 1172 cc Ford engine, both with a live rear axle and drum brakes. Owners of some cars installed alternative engines. There were two major body styles: one with a headrest and one without, with only two little fins. To fulfil GT regulations, some cars were later equipped with a closed body with gullwing doors.
