Fiat 1100 Tyres

Fiat 1100 1953–1969

  • The original 1954 Fiat 1100 fitted crossply tyres in the 5.20 - 14 size.
  • If you desire crossply tyres we would suggest fitting the 5.00/5.20 x 14 Excelsior, but on todays modern roads we would instead suggest fitting a radial tyre.
  • Longstone's recommendation is the 145 HR 14 PIRELLI CINTURATO CA67, being the highest quality tyre that offers a perfect fit.
  • Some people like to fit larger tyres, this is possible but we do not recommend it as it can affect handling. If fitting wider tyres is your desire we would suggest the 155 TR 14 Michelin X.
  • The 1100 D Estate fitted 560 - 14 tyres as original equipment. The ideal radial equivalent size to 5.60-14 is 155 R14. Our recommended 155R14 tyre is the 155 TR 14 Michelin X.
  • The 1100 R and 1100 R Estate fitted 155 R13 tyres. In this size we recommend the 155R13 PIRELLI CINTURATO CA67.

Fiat 1100 Innertubes

  • Our period innertube guides suggest that the 1100 ran tube-type wheels throughout its production. Innertubes will be needed even if you fit tubeless tyres.
  • The correct innertube for 155R13 tyres is the Michelin 13D innertube.
  • The ideal innertube for 520 - 14 crossply tires is the Michelin 14CG.
  • The Michelin 14D innertube is the correct sized tube for 145R14 and 155R14 tyres.

Fiat 1100 TV Tyres

Fiat 1100 TV

The majority of the little fiat 1100/103 models, including the sporting Transformabile roadster the 1100 TV fitted 14” wheels with crossply tyres 5.20X14. Because these days we tend to maintain more extended periods of time at cruising speed people tend to fit radial tyres, and Pirelli’s little 145 HR 14 PIRELLI CINTURATO CA67 is perfect for the job, being light and sprightly. A 1950s design perfect for the Fiat 1100. The Estate version of the 1100 F; Fiats 1100 Familiare fitted a slightly larger 5.60-14 crossply tyre to withstand the extra weight, this can be substituted with a 155TR14 Michelin X. again a perfect period tyre.

The majority of the little Fiat 1100/103 models, including the sporty Transformabile roadster; the 1100 TV, were equipped with 14" wheels sporting crossply tires in the size 5.20X14. Nowadays, as we tend to drive for longer periods at cruising speeds, people often opt for radial tires. For this purpose, Pirelli's nimble 145 HR 14 CINTURATO CA67 is an ideal choice, being lightweight and agile—a design from the 1950s that perfectly complements the Fiat 1100.

On the other hand, the Estate version of the 1100 F, the Fiat 1100 Familiare, came fitted with slightly larger 5.60-14 crossply tires to handle the extra weight. These tires can be effectively replaced with the 155 TR 14 Michelin X, another excellent period-appropriate tire option.

Fiat 1100 D Tyres

Later versions of the little Fiat 1100, the 1100 D and the later 1100 R moved to smaller 13” wheels. Fiat fitted the 1100D with a slightly bigger section tyre, helping maintain a similar overall diameter of the tyre, we would suggest fitting the 155R13 PIRELLI CINTURATO CA67or the 155HR13 Michelin XAS will be the best tyre for either the Fiat 1100D and 1100R.

Fiat 1100 History

The Fiat 1100 is a compact family automobile made by the Italian automaker Fiat from 1953 until 1969. It was a brand-new unibody successor for the Fiat 1100 E, which was based on the pre-war Fiat 508 C Balilla 1100. The 1100 was gradually updated until it was superseded by the new Fiat 128 in 1969.

The Fiat 1100 was released in 1937, with an appearance similar to the 1936 Fiat 500 "Topolino" and the bigger 1500, with the trademark heart-shaped front grille, like many autos from the 1930s and styling by the young designer Dante Giacosa. It was powered by a 1,089-cc four-cylinder overhead-valve motor, as opposed to the previous Balilla's 1-litre unit.
