History of the Delage D4
The D4 is a compact luxury car that marked the manufacturer's comeback to a segment of the market that it had neglected since the end of the development of the "Type AM" in 1921. The D4 has a 2,800 mm wheelbase and was designed to have as much component commonality as possible with earlier Delage cars. Despite this, it was equipped with the manufacturer's only four-cylinder engine, a 1480cc overhead valve unit. At 4,200 rpm, the maximum reported output was 40hp. The performance would have varied depending on the body type chosen and driving circumstances, but a speed of "about 63 mph" was claimed.
