OSCA 1050 Spider

O.S.C.A 1050 Tyres 1960–1964

  • The OSCA 1050 Spider fitted 550 - 12 crossply tyres or 145 R12 radial tyres.
  • The only crossply tyre in the 550 - 12 size is the 5.50 x 12 Camac, but this is a budget tyre we would not recommend.
  • The recommended radial OSCA 1050 tyre is the 145 SR 12 Michelin MX, being a high-quality classic tyre from a prestigious tyre manufacturer, with a higher speed rating.
  • The correct innertube for both these tyres is the Michelin 12CG.

OSCA 1050 History

OSCA, which stands for the Officine 'Specializzate Costruzione Automobili', was an Italian car company established by the Maserati brothers in 1947, with focus on sports and racing cars, particularly in the Italian 1,100 cc racing class. In the 1960s OSCA introduced two notable models; the 1050 S Coupé and the 1050 S Spider.

Introduced around 1960, the 1050 S Coupé was a 2-door fixed-head coupé designed by Carrozzeria Touring, renowned for their Superleggera lightweight construction techniques. This model featured a rear-mounted 1,058 cc engine producing approximately 62 bhp, paired with a 4-speed manual gearbox.

In 1964, OSCA introduced the 1050 S Spider, a 2-door roadster built on the rear-engine Fiat 850 platform. This prototype, showcased at the Turin Motor Show, featured a rear-mounted 1,057 cc engine producing 63 hp. The Spider had a kerb weight of approximately 585 kg and achieved a top speed of about 100 mph. Unfortunately, due to financial challenges faced by both OSCA and Carrozzeria Touring, the 1050 Spider never entered full production.

In 1963 the Maserati brothers sold OSCA to Motorcycle company owner Count Domenico Agusta but continued to work for Agusta until 1966. OSCA finally closed their doors in 1967.
