1971 Datsun 240Z Series 1
Datsun Fairlady Z 1969–1973
- 1969 saw the release by Nissan of their S30. This was sold in Japan as the Datsun Fairlady Z and elsewhere as the Datsun 240Z.
- In the 1970s the factory fitted Datsun 240Z tyres were 175 R14 Bridgestone, which is no longer produced today.
- For a Datsun 240Z the 175 HR 14 Michelin XAS is suggested by Longstone as the ideal road tyre for the Nissan Fairlady Z on 4.5” wheels.
- Because wider 5.5” wheels and 195/70 R14 Tyres were fitted to the later 260Z people often like a wider tyre on the earlier 240Z Nissan Fairlady Z.
- The 195/70 VR 14 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36 could be fitted as a period wider, sporty alternative.
- Our period Innertube Guide shows that all models of 240Z were released on tube-type wheels, which means that innertubes are required, even if the tyres you fit are tubeless.
- 175 R14 tyres would best fit a Michelin 14E innertube.
- 195/70 R14 Tyres can be fitted with Michelin 14F innertubes.
History of the Datsun 240Z (Nissan S30)
Though it was initially known as the Nissan s30, it was sold in Japan as the Nissan Fairlady Z and in other markets as the Datsun 240Z, then subsequently as the 260Z and 280Z, and was manufactured from 1969 to 1978. Mr Yoshihiko Matsuo, the head of Nissan's Sports Car Styling Studio, led the design team. The left-hand drive variant was designated as HLS30, whereas the right-hand drive type was designated as HS30. The Nissan Z GT 2 seater coupes were the first generation.
