Renault Caravelle Silver
Renault Caravelle 1958–1968
- We would suggest fitting a 135 SR 15 Michelin ZX to the Renault Caravelle.
- These tyres are best fit with a set of Michelin 15CB innertubes.
- For Caravelle tyre pressures we would suggest 18psi front and 26psi rear.
- Some people may choose to fit a larger tyre, for those people we suggest the 145 SR 15 Michelin XZX, however, larger tyres can impair handling, so consider this before you fit larger tyres.
- For these tyres the Michelin 15E is the ideal Renault Caravelle innertube.
- The Caravelle fitted tube-type wheels throughout its production run. Innertubes are required on these wheels, even if you fit tubeless radial tyres.
History of the Renault Caravelle
The Caravelle was Renault's effort to produce a coupe/cabriolet based on the Renault Dauphine that could compete with the success of the Volkswagen Beetle in North America. It was built between 1958 and 1968. The automobile was conceived at a Renault Convention in Florida and was known as the "Floride" throughout its development. However, it was considered that this name would alienate the other US states, so it was sold as the Caravelle in English-speaking nations (the US, Canada, and the UK) until 1962, when it was marketed as the Caravelle in all countries.
