Gordon Keeble GT 1964–1967

  • The Gordon Keeble GT initially fitted 640 - 15 crossply tyres. Later, it moved up to 670 - 15 crossply tyres.
  • The only quality 640 - 15 and 670 - 15 crossply tyres made today are the 640 H 15 Avon Super Safety and 670 H 15 Avon Turbospeed respectively, however we recommend switching to radial tyres.
  • The radial equivalent to the 640 - 15 crossply is 185 R15. In this size, our recommended Gordon Keeble GT tyre is the excellent 185 VR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO CA67.
  • The radial equivalent to the 670 - 15 crossply is 205/70 R15. In this size, we recommend the 205/70 R15 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN12, which is ideal for sporting cars of this era without power steering.
  • Whether your Keeble GT was originally supplied with 640 - 15 or 670 - 15 tyres, you can choose between the 185 VR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO CA67 for lighter, more responsive steering, or the 205/70 R15 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN12 if you prefer more rubber on the road.
  • The correct innertube for 185 R15 and 205/70 R15 Gordon Keeble GT tyres is the Michelin 15F Offset Valve Innertube.

Gordon Keeble GT History

The Gordon Keeble GT was a British grand tourer produced between 1964 and 1967. The company was founded by John Gordon and Jim Keeble, whose names combined to form the company.

The car was styled by Giorgetto Giugiaro at Bertone, giving the GT a distinctly Italian aesthetic. The body was made of fibreglass, mounted on a square-section tubular steel chassis. Power came from a 5.4-litre Chevrolet Corvette V8 engine, producing around 300 bhp! This allowed for a top speed of around 140 mph, with a 0–60 mph time managed in under 6 seconds! The Gordon Keeble GT featured independent suspension on all four wheels and disc brakes all round, which was advanced for the era. The interior was luxurious, with enough space to seat four adults, which was also uncommon for a GT of the time.

The badge featured a tortoise (ironic given the 300 bhp Corvette V8 under the bonnet), which was inspired by a real tortoise that wandered into a press photoshoot for the company. Only 99 GT cars were built before high production costs unfortunately caused the company to fail. Today, surviving cars are rare and highly prized by collectors, with many still driven today.
