Abarth 2200 1959–1962

  • The Abarth 2200 originally fitted 590 - 14 crossply tyres. Quality crossply tyres are not currently made in this size, we suggest switching to radial tyres.
  • The closest radial sizes to 590 - 14 are 155 R14 and 165 R14.
  • The best Abarth 2200 Coupe and Spyder tyre in the 155 R14 size is the 155 TR 14 Michelin X.
  • Longstone's recommended tyre is the 165 HR 14 PIRELLI CINTURATO CA67, as it was designed to suit cars of this period, and, unlike the Michelin X, it is designed specifically for sports cars.
  • A low-profile alternative to 165 R14 tyres is 185/70 R14. If you want low-profile tyres for the Abarth 2200 the best option is the 185/70 VR 14 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36.
  • The correct innertube for 155 R14 and 165 R14 tyres is the Michelin 14D.
  • The ideal tube for 185/70 R14 tyres is the Michelin 14E.

Abarth 2200 History

The Abarth 2200 is a very rare sports car, made between 1959 and 1962. The car was based on the Fiat 2100, but given a number of upgrades by Italian tuning house Abarth. These upgrades include a larger engine; the 2.1l fiat engine was swapped for a 2.2L straight six engine, which, with the assistance of three carburettors, lead to the 2200 producing roughly 135 horsepower. This allowed for a top speed of around 116 mph, which was significant for its day.

The 2200 was produced as a coupe and as a Spyder, with the coachbuilding designed by top Italian firms like Ellena and Allemano. The 2200 also featured a luxurious interior to match the exquisite bodywork. Only 28 Abarth 2200's were made, making them a very valuable and sought-out item among classic car enthusiasts, often fetching high prices due to its historical significance, beauty, engineering, and rarity.
