Renault R8 Gordini Tyres
Renault R8 Gordini
Renault 8 Gordini 1964–1970
- With a Renault 8 Gordini, we recommend fitting 135 SR 15 Michelin ZX.
- These tyres are best fit with a set of Michelin 15CB innertubes.
- You can fit a 145 SR 15 Michelin XZX on the R8 Gordini, but there is no benefit to over tying the car.
- For these tyres the Michelin 15E is the ideal innertube.
- The Gordini fitted tube-type wheels throughout production. Innertubes are required for these wheels, even if you fit a tubeless radial tyre.
- We recommend running a Renault R8 on 18psi front and 30psi rear.
History of the Renault R8 Gordini
A more powerful variant of the Renault R8, the R8 Gordini, was also launched that year, with a modified engine with the same capacity but producing 89 horsepower. A cross-flow head and twin dual-choke 40mm side-draft Solex carburettors provided the additional power. A four-speed manual transmission, twin rear shock absorbers, and upgraded springs were installed. The R1134 Gordini was initially only available in blue with two stick-on white 'Go-Faster' stripes. The larger 200mm headlight units distinguished it from the 8 Major. The Renault 10 Major, a more opulent variant of the 8 with altered front and rear design replaced the 8 Major in 1965. The R8 Gordini had a redesign in 1967, featuring two extra headlights and an engine change to a 1255cc engine rated at 99 horsepower.
