Mercedes Benz SS History
In the middle of 1928, an updated version of the Model S was introduced under the name of SS or Super Sport. This new model was designed as a grand touring car and featured a wet cylinder liner that allowed for a larger bore, resulting in an increased displacement of 7.1 litres. This modification provided an extra 40 horsepower, giving the SS a total output of 200 horsepower when the supercharger was engaged. Thanks to its impressive power output, the SS could reach a top speed of 118 mph, which was two to three times faster than most cars of its time.
