- The Steyr Type 55 originally fitted 450 - 17 crossply tyres.
- Longstone's recommended Steyr Type 55 tyre is the 4.50 x 17 Avon Tourist. The Avon Tourist is a high-quality crossply tyre, perfectly suited the Type 55.
- There is not a good radial equivalent size for 450 - 17, as this car will handle authentically on the original crossply size.

Steyr Type 55 Innertubes
- The Steyr Type 55 fitted tube-type wheels that require innertubes to function.
- For 450 - 17 tyres the Michelin 17MG Central Valve Inner Tube is the ideal innertube.
- We always recommend tubes from Michelin as they are reliably of the best quality.
- Information on valve-type is limited. If the wheels have an offset valve rather than a central valve the BUDGET 450-500 17"/18" Offset Valve Inner Tube is the best choice of innertube.
Steyr Type 55 History
The Type 55 evolved from the earlier Type 50, gaining greater power and a longer wheelbase while retaining unitary construction and independent suspension. Its flat-four engine sat far forward over a rear-wheel-drive layout, giving excellent cabin space for the era. Around 7,800 were built before production ceased in 1940, making survivors rare and collectible today.
