MG Magnette Tyres
MG ZA 1953-1968
- MG ZA Magnette tyres, as standard in 1953 were 5.50-15 Dunlop Crossply Tyres, the 145 HR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO ™ CA67, developed in 1952 was offered as a radial upgrade.
- Today Pirelli make an excellent 155 HR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO CA67, which along with the 155HR15 Michelin XAS FF are excellent sporty options.
- There is not currently a crossply tyre of the size 5.50-15 we would encourage MG ZA Magnette owners to fit.
- Michelin make a 155 TR 15 Michelin X which is a great value light weight radial option for a ZA Magnette.
Magnette ZB Tyres
- The ZB Magnette of 1956 to 1958 from MG moved onto 560 - 15 Tyres, There is a 5.60 x 15 Camac Crossply, but we are not big fans.
- The radial equivalent size is 155 R15 Tyres, for which the 155 TR 15 Michelin X would be great value road tyre. Light steering, nice ride and period look.
- Again the PIRELLI CINTURATO ™ CA67 and Michelin XAS offer great higher performance sporty handling in 155 R15 and 165 R15 sizes.
165 R 15 MG Magnette Tyres
Farina Magnette Tyres
- In 1959 the Farina bodied MG Magnette MK3 moved on to fitting 14” wheels, as did the MK4 MG Magnette of 1961.
- Bothe the MK3 and MK4 MG Magenette Farina fitted 590 - 14 Tyres. There is not currently a 590-14 tyre we would recommend.
- We would suggest the best tyre for a Farina bodied MG Magnette from 1959 to 1969 would be the 165 HR 14 PIRELLI CINTURATO CA67.
MG Magnette Innertubes
- The MG Magnette ZA and ZB with 15” wheels with crossply 5.50-15, 5.60-15 or radial 145R15, 155R15 or 165R15 is best fitted with Michelin 15E innertubes.
- The Magnette MK3 and MK4 Magnette wheels were tubeless wheels, so no innertubes need using with tubeless tyres fitted like the Cinturato.
- If, for what ever reason you do need an innertube in a Farina MG Magnette with 14” wheels you can fit the Michelin 14D innertube.
