History of the Jensen Healey
Built between 1972-1976, approximately 10,000 Jensen Healeys were produced. Following the popularity of the defunct Austin Healey 3000 in American markets, US dealership owner Kjell Qvale entered into talks with Healey and Jensen; eventually becoming a shareholder in Jensen and establishing Donald Healey as chairman.
The Jensen Healey was designed to be cheap to repair and have low insurance premiums, so to this end, it featured bolt-on panels to make re-spraying or replacement in case of damage easier and cheaper. Though the Jensen Healey would eventually fall prey to the Oil Crisis that would cause Jensen to close in 1976, the car enjoyed some success in racing, winning the SCCA D Production Championship in 1973 (its first year of racing) and 1974.
