Ford Taunus Tyres
Ford Taunus Mk1 G73A & 10M Tyres (1948–1952)
- The Ford Taunus G73A and early Taunus 10M models originally fitted 590 - 15 crossply tyres on steel disc wheels. Longstone suggests the 590 H 15 Avon Turbospeed as the correct crossply.
- Many classic car owners prefer to fit radial tyres, as they offer better safety and performance than older crossply technology.
- The best radial alternative size for 590 - 15 crossplies is 165 R15. Owners choosing radials should fit the 165 HR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO CA67.
- The 165 SR 15 Michelin XZX is also a good option for the MK1 Taunus, also available with a whitewall with the 165R15 Michelin XZX Whitewall.

Ford Taunus Innertubes
We have insufficient data to know when the Taunus transitioned from tube-type wheels to tubeless wheels. Models originally on crossply tyres are definitely tube-type, but innertubes were still fitted to cars after radial tyres were introduced. You need to check your wheels for a safety hump to determine your model's wheel type. If in doubt, fit a tube.
We always fit Michelin's innertubes where possible, as they are made to the highest quality with thicker rubber, leading to the best performance and the least issues.
- For 590 - 15 crossply tyres, and for 165 R15 radial tyres, the correct innertube is the Michelin 15E.
- For 560 - 13 and 590 - 13 crossply tyres, and for 155 R13, 165 R13, and 175/70 R13 radial tyres, our recommended innertube is the Michelin 13D.
- For 640 - 13 and 6.40/7.00 R13 tyres, 185/70 R13 tyres, 185 R13 tyres, and 205/70 R13 tyres, the correct innertube is the Michelin 13F.
- For 175 R14 tyres, the correct innertube is the Michelin 14E.
- For 195/70 R14 tyres, the correct tube is the Michelin 14F.

History of the Ford Taunus
The Ford Taunus is a family vehicle manufactured by Ford Germany and marketed across Europe. Types from 1970 onwards were constructed on the same basic structure as the Ford Cortina MkIII in the United Kingdom, and later on, the two-car models were almost identical, varying practically only in the positioning of the steering wheel. The Taunus mountain range in Germany inspired the model series, which debuted in 1939 and was updated numerous times until 1994.
Another car immortalised by the 007 film franchise - a black 1976 model Taunus was driven by a henchman pursuing James Bond (Roger Moore) in his Lotus Esprit on the roads of Sardinia in the 1977 film The Spy Who Loved Me. The famous Jaws (Richard Kiel) was a passenger of the Taunus, and he was apparently the sole survivor when Bond managed to throw off the chasing automobile, causing it to overshoot a precipice and slam into the roof of a barn.
