6.00-16 Dunlop Racing Tyres
The Dunlop Racing 600-16 R5 would be the best cross ply tyre for a fast car on the road or track, in the dry. The 600-16 R5 is a road legal tyre unlike the 600L16 CR48 which is not e-marked and are not suited to road use.
The 600-16 Dunlop Racing tyre R5 is from the good old days, when you could drive your racing car to the track, race it, then drive it home again in true Longstone tyres style.
600-16 Tyres
Though the Dunlop Racing 600-16 R5 is an excellent cross ply tyre in the dry it is not really an ideal all round road tyre. The Jaguar XK Jaguars fitted 600-16 Dunlop RS5 and the Aston Martins of the fifties fitted 600-16 Avon TurboSpeed both these tyres are better all round road tyres if you want a crossply.
In the 50's and 60's the Top notch Italian marques were moving away from fitting Crossply Tyres. They moved onto 185R16 Michelin X or 185VR16 PIRELLI CINTURATO ™ CA67, the size 185R16 is a radial alternative to 600-16. If you specified to Aston Martin that you wanted your Feltham DB Aston Martin fitted with radial tyres like Maserati and Ferrari; Aston would have fitted the PIRELLI CINTURATO ™ 185VR16 CA67.
Michelin also make a 600-16 Pilote X which is an extremely high specification radial alternative to a 600-16 crossply tyre.
