205/70-15 Classic Tyres

In 1968 the low profile tyre size 205/70 R 15 was first invented by Dunlop and first fitted to the Jaguar XJ6. 205/70R15 was originally called ER/70VR15. A 205/70R15 tyre is a more modern low profile version of a 185VR15 tyre. However you should bare in mind that when you modify a car by fitting 205/70R15 tyres you will find the steering heavier and more vague, which is why when Jaguar developed the series 3 e-type Jaguar fitted with 205/70VR15 tyres the fitted power steering.

The Avon CR28 tyre is a somewhat more modern tyre than many of the cars that might consider fitting the size 205/70R15.

When you think of the Jaguar cars that might consider fitting a tyre of the size 205/70R15. For instance a DaimlerJaguar XJ6, XJ12 or XJS that originally fitted the Dunlop ER/70VR15 Aquajet, these tyres were soon replaced when Jaguar asked Pirelli to make the 205/70R15 P5 to replace them. And the series 3 E-type you would fit the earlier 205/70R15 Pirelli Cinturato CN12 or 205/70R15 Michelin XWX as upgrades to the original ER/70R15 Dunlop SP Sport.

The Citroen SM simply fitted Michelin XWX. As did Ferrari at the time.

Aston Martin, though they were advocates of the Avon Turbospeed crossply 6.00-16 and the 6.70-15, when it came to fitting radial tyres they fitted 185VR16 Pirelli Cinturato, 185VR15 Pirelli Cinturato on the DB4, DB5 and DB6 series 1. Then the DB6 series 2, then DBS fitted 205VR15 Pirelli CN72. Not until the V8 did Aston Martin fit radial Avon tyres and that was in the size 225/70VR15 Avon TurboSpeed. Worth noting that the V8 Vantage and some of the Volante cars fitted 255/60VR15 Pirelli CN12.
