History of the Austin A70 Hereford
The A70 Hereford was introduced in 1950 as a successor for the A70 Hampshire, with the main change being a 3 inch (76 mm) increase in wheelbase and the addition of hydraulic brakes. The automobile had the same 2199cc 4-cylinder engine as the 1946 Austin 16. Austins of the time were known for including free inside heating, and the Hereford included "the latest Smiths fresh-air installation" as standard equipment. However, sales were dismal, with just a little more than 50,000 built until the A90 Westminster replaced it in 1954. The automobile initially cost around £911 (roughly £26,000 now) including taxes.
