215/70 R15 tyres were, from 1968 until the mid-1970s, the height of sophistication. 215/70 R15 tyres were only fitted to the highest-performance luxury sports cars. These actual 215/70 R15 tyres, the Pirelli P5, are 'J' homologated by Jaguar, as these were the tyres Jaguar directly asked Pirelli to make for their Jaguar XJ12 and the V12 XJS HE back in the day, and Jaguar has requested them once again to enhance their classic cars that are still on the road.
Pirelli also makes another high-performance 215/70 R15 classic tyre, the 215/70 VR15 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN12, which came out in 1971. The 215/70 VR15 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN12 was original equipment on lots of cars, such as the Jensen Interceptor FF, the back of an early De Tomaso Pantera, Lamborghini Espada Series 3 and Lamborghini Miura. 215/70 R15 tyres were also made by Michelin in an XWX. The 215/70VR15 Michelin XWX was original equipment on the Ferrari and Maserati of the period.
