165 R 13
The tyre size 165 R 13 was very popular though out the 70's and early 80's on cars such as Ford Cortina, Capri, Vauxhall Cavalier, Vauxhall Victor, Lotus Elan +2, etc.
165 R 13 Tyres
A 165 R 13 tyre is also an ideal radial alternative to a 590 - 13 or 600-13 cross ply tyre.
The Dunlop Aquajet 165 R 13 SP Sport tyre was developed towards the end of the 1960 and has a very evocative tread pattern. There are alternative tyres in this size, including some budget tyres. There is also the 165R13 Michelin XAS which is an excellent tyre and the Michelin XAS asymmetric tread pattern was developed in 1965.
However, the best sports car tyre in the size 165 R 13 is from the PIRELLI Collezionerange; the 165R13 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36. It is a fabulously progressive tyre which also benefits from modern grippy compounds and is a genuine period tyre for cars from 1968 right through the 1970s and well into the 1980s.

Dunlop Aquajet
Dunlop developed the SP Sport Aquajet tyre in 1968. The official name was SP Sport and Aquajet was a nick name that has stuck.
The Dunlop Aquajet is produced in a range of sizes 145SR10, 165/70SR10, 165HR13, 175/70 R13, 185/70 R13, 185VR15, and ER70VR15.
This 165 R 13 Dunlop Aquajet fits a very wide range of British and European cars of the 60's, 70's and right through to the early 80s from an Austin Maxi 1750 of the early 70's to the Ford Cortina of the 80's.
Dunlop SP Sport Aquajet
The term Aquajet was coined because the SP Sport or Aquajet has small holes in the side of the tread pattern designed to eject water and maintain grip in wet conditions.
