235/60 VR 15 Tyres

In 1987 Jaguar fitted 7' rims to it's XJS 3.6, 4.0 Coupe and Convertible, and wider tyres in the size 235/60VR15 and they fitted this PIRELLI P600. The 235/60 VR 15 Pirelli P600 was also fitted to the Jaguar XJS V12. The first of the Jaguar XJR-S V12 5.3 also fitted the 235/60VR15 P600. From 1989 Jaguar were also offering 16” wheels with 225/55R16 tyres or 245/45R16 as a alternative to the earlier 235/60 VR15 Pirelli P600.

It should ne recognised that tyre legislation has changed since the 1980s and 1990s when this 235/60 VR 15 P600 was a current tyre. That tyre now qualifies for a WR speed rating instead of a VR speed rating. So the tyre that once was a 235/60VR15 Pirelli P600 is now called a 235/60WR15 Pirelli P600 to fit modern regulations and also making this tyre qualify for the speed of these extremely powerful classic sports cars.

235/60 WR 15

The XJS originally fitted 205/70-15 tyres like the series 3 E-Type and the XJ6 and first XJ V12 and we still have a selection of tyres in this size, including the 205/70 VR 15 CINTURATO ™ P5. The Pirelli P5 was a tyre developed by Pirelli at Jaguars request to improve its XJ range of luxury cars.

Then the later V12 XJS cars fitted a larger 215/70VR15 tyre. There is a range of tyres available. However for Jaguar the 215/70 WR 15 Pirelli Cinturato P5 would be the obvious choice, because it was designed specifically for the XJS V12. Incidentally of all the tyres fitted to the XJS the 215/70VR15 was the tallest and offers longer legged cruising.

Fortunately for later XJS owners Pirelli do continue to make the 235/60WR15 P600. Of the other tyres in the size 235/60 R 15 nothing has a suitable speed rating. To our knowledge there is not another 235/60VR15 or 235/60WR15 tyres currently in production.
