205R15 Tyres

From about 1971 to 1973, (before the flared wheel arch) many of the Rolls Royce Silver Shadow series 1 cars fitted with either 8.15-15 Avon Crossply tyre which is no longer made or this 205R15 Avon textile radial option.

205 R15 Tyres were also an option for the Aston Martin DBS. However at that point Aston Martin used PIRELLI CINTURATO ™ CN72 as their radial tyres, because the Avon radials were not up to standard for the sporty handling of the Aston Martin. The 6 cylinder DBS and the series 2 Aston Martin DB6 with the flared wheel arches were fitted with either 8.15-15 Avon TurboSpeed crossply tyres that are no longer made; or the 205 VR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN72 radial which is still made by Pirelli for these cars.

The other tyre available in this size was the 205 R15 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN72 which came out in 1964. This was the original tyre for Ferrari 330 GT 2+2, Maserati Ghibli, Lamborghini 350GT Tyres etc. In fact the majority of the larger engine high performance European sports cars from the top manufactures like Maserati, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Iso and Bizzarrini fitted the 205R15 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN72 as original equipment, because at the time it was the biggest tyre that was capable of withstanding the power of these 1960s supercars.

It is also worth noting that a 205R15 is the same as a 205/80R15.
