185/70R15 PIRELLI
In the late '60s and '70s Porsche fitted their 911 cars with 185/70VR15 tires by PIRELLI. However the tire they fitted was the 185/70VR15 CINTURATO ™ CN36 which is fortunately being made again by PIRELLI and would be the tire of choice for these classic cars, because the CN36 carcase is more suited to cars of this period. There is no doubt that the 185/70VR15 P6000 N is an excellent tire but it is designed to be used on more modern cars.
One of the major advantages of this 185/70VR15 PIRELLI P6000 N tire is that for some of the later '70s 911 cars they fitted a wider rear wheel to fit a 215/60VR15.
185/70VR15 Tires
The tire size 185/70VR15 as well as being a Porsche fitment, it is also a low profile alternative to the tire size 165R15. It is no coincidence that the 165R15 tire size was fitted by the VW Beatle, 912, 356 and early 911, but 165R15 tires were also fitted to TR4, TR5, TR6, MGC, Peugeot 404, Volvo P1800, Morgan 4/4, TVR Vixen and many other classic cars of this period. Many of these cars often want to fit a wider tire and tire of the size 185/70VR15 fits the bill. However again unless you car is seriously modified you would be better off fitting a period tire such as the 185/70VR15 Michelin XWX or 185/70VR15 PIRELLI CINTURATO ™ CA67 will handle better with a classic car than a modern tyre.
