Michelin TRX
The new ultra low profile TRX tires were developed by Michelin in 1975. The new technology allowed a more even distribution of tension over the whole casing. Michelin’s TRX tyre and wheel combination needs to be used in conjunction with each other. Michelin built the new rims in millimetric sizes because a TRX tire mustn’t go on a normal rim, likewise a normal tire mustn’t go on a TRX wheel. The rim profile on the TRX wheels is a shallower flange at less of an angle designed to give a less complicated flex in the side wall and diminish heat build up. This also helps make the TRX give excellent longevity.
240/55VR415 Tires
This is not the most common tyre size in the world. The Michelin TRX is the only tire made in the size 240/55VR415, and they fit Ferrrari 400i GT, Ferrari 412 GT and the front of some Ferrari 512 BB. So not many cars at all. We are lucky that Michelin continue to make the 240/55VR415 TRX for so few cars.
