For some time now, the great fun little sports cars of the ‘60s right through to the beginning of the '80s that did so much for the British car manufacturing industry have not had a perfect tyre until the recent re-introduction of the 145R13 PIRELLI CINTURATO ™ CA67. Currently, there are a variety of budget tyres with low-speed ratings and a carcass that is developed to complement a more modern chassis. The Cinturato CA67 maintains the rounded carcass that is critical to the handling of these little light-weight, rear-wheel-drive classic sports cars. 145R13 Classic Tyres
Right into the 1970s many car manufacturers were still fitting crossply tyres of sizes such as 520-13. Many of these cars, such as the Austin A30, A35 Metropolitan, early Lotus 7 Elan, MG Midget, early Triumph Spitfire, Herald Toledo, and Standard 8, which would have left the factory fitted with 520-13 Crossply tyres, no longer had a suitable tyre available to them in crossply, especially the sports cars like the Midget, Spitfire, and Lotus Elan.
These cars will benefit from having a period radial carcass that will handle well and give the improved directional stability of a radial without making the steering dramatically heavy and numb, as would be the symptoms of fitting an oversized tyre such as a 165/70R13.
