The tyre size 400X17 is a motorbike tyre size However the size 400X17 was fitted the Fiat Balilla and in the UK post 1936 cars also fitted a 400 X 17 tyre. the Excelsior 400X17 tyre is a good tyre in this size. Today the preference for cars wanting a tyre in the size 400X17 would be the 400X17 Longstone tyre as this has a tread pattern that looks very much like the 400X17 tyre that Austin fitted in period.

400X17 tyres

Instead of making a simple 400X17 tyre these days manufacturers tend to make a 400/425X17 tyre. In period there would have been enough demand to warrant 2 tyres 400X17 and 425X17 however today a dual marked tyre in the size 400/425X17 makes more sense. weather it is 400X17 you want or 425X17 for vintage car use we would recommend fitting the Longstone 400/425X17.
