205/70 R15 Tyres

We are currently well serviced with tyres in the size 205/70 R15, of which this Pirelli Cinturato CN12 is ideally suited to the classic sports cars of the 1970s. The CN12 is an early low-profile tyre suited to cars that would originally have fitted a full-profile radial or cross-ply because the CN12 carcass is developed to compliment that kind of chassis setup. 205/70 R15 tyres are a low-profile radial alternative to a 185 R15 radial and 640 - 15 or 670 - 15 crossply tyres.

So, if you want a low-profile tyre on an early 6-cylinder e-type Jaguar or DB5 Aston that originally fitted crossply, then the 205/70 R15 Cinturato CN12 is the best option, or a 250 GT Ferrari that would have originally left the factory fitting 185 VR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO CA67, again, the 205/70 R15 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN12 is ideal.

It is also worth noting that when low-profile tyres such as 205/70 R15 were first developed in 1968, there was a tendency for the size 205/70 to be called ER/70 R15. However, they are just the same tyre.

When Jaguar introduced its Luxury Jaguar XJ6, it fitted ER/70 VR 15 Dunlop SP Sport Aquajet tyres. However, that description soon got changed to 205/70 R15, and Jaguar was soon in need of a tyre more consistent than the Dunlop with better performance that was tailored exactly to suit their luxury range of XJ cars, which by then included the XJS, and together they produced the Cinturato P5. If you have a Jaguar XJ6 or XJS, we recommend the 205/70 WR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO P5 (and the 215/70 WR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO P5 for the V12 models). However, if you need the 205/70 R15 for an earlier sports car, the CN12 is perfect.

205/70 R15 tyres were OE on the Jensen Interceptor. Again, the earlier cars would have had the same tyre but were called ER/70 R15. Jensen, wanting the best tyre available, fitted their cars with a 205/70 R15 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN12 and a 215/70 R15 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN12 on the Interceptor FF.

205/70 R15 Innertubes

If you have suitable wheels that are designed to be used without innertubes because they have the safety rib on the rim, then the 205/70 R15 Cinturato CN12 can be run tubeless. However if you are fitting them on wire wheels with spokes or early wheels without the safety rib, then you need a quality 205/70 R15 innertube. We strongly recommend fitting the Michelin 15F as the best 205/70 R15 innertube.
