It is fair to say that the tyre size 255/60 R 15 is not the most common tyre size. As a result for some time there wasn’t a high performance period tyre produced in this size. However when Lamborghini developed the SV version of the beautiful Muira they needed a larger rear tyre. So Pirelli produced the 255/60 WR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO ™ CN12 HS which they fitted to the rear and matched it up with the 215/70 WR 15 Cinturato CN12 HS on the front. Pirelli are now producing them again as the 255/60 WR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO ™ CN12 now with the W speed rating.
In 1979 when Aston Martin further upgraded it’s V8 Vantage model with wider 15” wheels and fitted Pirelli’s 255/60 WR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO ™ CN12 tyres which Aston fitted to it’s vantage models until 1984 when they fitted 275/55 r 15 P7 Pirelli’s. However if you read the article below you will see that the 255/60 R 15 tyres were the preferred tyre, even when later Aston fitted 16” wheels. The 255/60VR15 Cinturato CN12 was also considered a major upgrade for standard V8 and V8 Volante models.
