White Wall Jaguar Tyres

I have just been asked to quote for white wall tyres and thought it might be interesting to publish them. The reason being, I'm a complete snob when it comes to fitting white walls on cars like Jaguars and I honestly tried to hold back from giving my full opinion, but I'm not sure how well it went:-

Hi
I am looking for the following, please feel free to make your recommendations on the most suitable tyres.
5 Off radial tyres with a white wall for my 1957 Mark 1 Jaguar on steel wheels, currently running on crossply's.

Sorry, but I certainly would encourage you not to fit a white wall tyre on that car, they just don't look right. However the best tyre for a MK1 Jaguar is a 180 HR 15 Michelin XAS. This is nice and tall and thin and the 1965 Asymmetric tyre carcass and tread pattern improve the steering no end particularly after a crossply. The other option would be the 185 VR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO ™ CA67 this is a period tyre and was the update of choice in period for people that could afford it. They will both be much nicer than crossply tyres and the steering using the Michelin XAS will be a little lighter than the Pirelli CA67.

I can have a white wall built into any of these tyres, which is a quality process costing £130 per tyre and takes about 6 weeks. But again, I'm almost begging you not to put a white wall on this lovely British car.

There are more details and short films here Jaguar MkI MkII.

White Wall XJ6 Tyres

Hi, could you please send me a price for 5 off radials tyres with a 30mm White walls for my 1975 Jaguar XJ6C series 2 on alloys.

Blimey, I think one of the ways I lose the most customers is by trying to stop them from fitting white wall tyres on cars like this. However, we can supply a selection of 205/70VR15 tyres with a19mm or 24mm white wall for around £100 + VAT. These tyres have a low speed rating and in my mind do not fit cars like yours. The carcass structure is inappropriate for European cars like yours.
We can also offer a couple of tyres with a 50mm or 60mm white wall band, but again they are insufficient for your car with low speed ratings and the wrong carcasses as well. These cost around £250 + VAT. Personally if I had your car I would fit 205/70 VR 15 Michelin XWX or 205/70 WR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO ™ CN12. Again if you really need to have a white wall on this lovely car we can do it, again at £130 per tyre, but please don't.

White Wall E type Jaguar Tyres

Hello, could you please give me a price for 5 radial tyres with a 30mm white walls for my 1971 Jaguar e-type series 3 V12 on Chrome Wire wheels.

Oh no, not again. I know they did it in the States, but I can't encourage it. The situation with series 3 E-types is exactly the same as your XJ6C above. There are more details and films on here https://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/classic-car-tyres/jaguar/e-type.html

I am sorry for my scathing remarks. Cheapo built white wall tyres from America just do not handle as well as a well made European tyre on our lovely cars like Jaguars., they tend to wallow. So the only way to keep your handling right and have a white wall is to have it built into a Pirelli or Michelin tyre. But a white wall will always look wrong on a Jaguar in my opinion.
