History of the Renault Mona Celta 4

The Celtaquatre was unveiled to the public in April 1934, and production began a month later. Its release coincided with the release of Citroen's Traction Avant, and the Renault's unveiling was overshadowed by Citroen's formidable public relations machine. The automobile was driven by a four-cylinder 1463 cc side-valve engine that produced 34 horsepower at 3,500 rpm. A traditional three-speed gearbox sent power to the rear wheels. The suspension was built on rigid axles front and rear, which was considered quite basic at a period when competitors from volume automakers, such as the Peugeot 301, were delivered with independent front suspension. The 8CV Celtaquatre, on the other hand, was considerably more reasonably priced than the 8CV. The Celtaquatre with a regular saloon body was priced at 16,900 francs at the Paris Motor Show in October, whereas the Peugeot 301 "berline normale" was priced at 20,500 francs.
