185 R16
The 185 R16 Michelin X is an incredible good value tyre, specially when you consider it is made by Michelin, well known for being one of the worlds best tyre manufacturers. The Michelin X design itself is a very historic tyre ion that it was the first radial tyre from the 1940s. So having a 185 R16 Michelin X is very much a tyre for classic cars of the 1940s and 1950s. A 185 R16 radial tyre is the ideal upgrade for a classic car that fitted with 6.00-16 or 6.70-16 crossply tyres.
It is also worth noting that this 185 R16 Michelin X has a S speed rating, making it suited to speeds of up to 112mph or 180 km/h
185 R16 Tyres
From the late 1940s through the 1950s classic sports cars fitted 16” wheels with either 6.00-16 crossply tyres or 185 R16 radial tyres. Car such as Jaguar XK120, XK140 & XK150. Ferrari 250 and Maserati cars of the 1950s, BMW 507 early Alfa 1900 and the Riley RM cars fitted 16” wheels and back in period they would have fitted the 185 R16 Michelin X as a great way of increasing the levels of grip, durability and directional stability at cruising speeds.
It is worth noting that with some of these faster sports cars because the current production of 185 R16 Michelin X only qualifies for the S Speed rating they might be better suited to the 185VR16 Pirelli Cinturato or the 6.00 R 16 Michelin Pilote X.
Another development for cars of this period wanting a performance 16” tyre is that now there is a genuine high performance crossply tyre in this size in the 6.00V16 Pirelli Stella Bianca.
