Morris Minor Traveller Wheels
Like all the other models of Morris minor and Morris 1000, they came fitted with the thin 3D-14 wheels designed to offer comfort at a good price. The wheels we have here are to the reproduction of the van wheel painted the original Old English white that a MM left the factory with. The advantage of the 4.5” wide van wheel is that it has a safety bead and allows the tyres to be fitted without an inner tube.
Mogey Traveller Tyres
The Mogey Traveller and other models of Minor benefit from fitting a 145R14 tyre. 155R14 is too big and is the equivalent of 560-14 the Morris Traveller came fitted with 520-14 Dunlop D75 Crossply tyres. The best equivalent for that today is the 145R14 Pirelli Cinturato that is offered here fitted to a wheel.
This picture demonstrates there is no benefit in diameter to fitting a modern 155R14 tyre, but the tread is dramatically wider and does spoil the handling and unnecessarily overload the steering.
Morris Traveller Inner Tubes
The standard Morris Minor car wheels need inner tubes because they are not tubeless wheels as they do not have the safety rib of a tubeless rim. We fit the 14CG Michelin inner tube. We are not fans of the other budget tubes that are available as we have had too many customers let down by tubes they have bought else where. We think a classic car inner tube should be “fit and forget”.
