Mercedes-Benz 500 R107/C107 Tyres 1971–1989


The Mercedes-Benz R107 and C107, produced from 1971 to 1989, featured the R107 as a two-seat convertible and the C107 as a four-seat coupe with a fixed roof. R107 and C107 '500' models were made from 1980 to 1989.

  • The Mercedes-Benz 500SL (1980–1989) and 500SLC (1980–1981) fitted 205/70 R14 tyres. In this size we can recommend the 205/70 WR 14 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36 or the 205/70VR14 Michelin XWX.
  • Our period fitment guides suggest that the Mercedes 500SL and 500 SLC came fitted with tubeless wheels. Innertubes are not required for these wheels and tyres providing your wheel rims are in good condition. If you do need a tube, the correct innertube for 205/70R14 tyres is the Michelin 14F.

The W126 series, serving as Mercedes-Benz's second-generation S-Class from 1979 to 1991, offered luxury in sedan and coupe forms, evolving from the earlier W116. '500' models were in production from 1979 to 1985.

  • The 500 SE, 500 SEC, and 500 SEL models fitted 205/70R14 tyres throughout production.

Mercedes-Benz 500 W124 Tyres 1984–1997


Mercedes-Benz's W124 series encompassed a broad range of executive cars, including saloons, estates, coupes, and cabriolets, underpinned by diverse chassis designations. '500' models were in production from 1991 to 1994.

  • The Mercedes-Benz 500 E on the W124 chassis from 1991 to 1993 fitted 225/55R16 tyres.
  • The Mercedes-Benz E 500 on the W124 chassis in 1994 fitted 225/55R16 tyres.
  • Some W124 E500's were fitted with wider 8.5Jx17 wheels and 245-45-17 tyres.

From 1988 to 2001, Mercedes-Benz produced the R129 SL, a two-door roadster equipped with an innovative electro-hydraulic fabric top for open-air driving. '500' models were made from 1989 to 2001.

  • The SL 500 was equipped with 225/55R16 tyres from 1989 to 1997.
  • The SL 500 Sport adopted a sportier tyre size of 245/40R18 from 1998 to 2001.
  • The SL 500 upgraded to 245/45R17 tyres starting in 1999 and maintained this size through 2001.

From 1991 to 1998, the Mercedes-Benz W140 series offered flagship sedans (and coupe's under the C140 chassis) in various configurations, including two wheelbase lengths, showcasing the brand's advancements in luxury and technology. '500' models were made throughout the W140 production period.

  • The SEL 500 used 235/60R16 tyres from 1992 to 1994.
  • The S 500 and S 500 Coupe models were equipped with 235/60R16 tyres from 1995 to 1999.
  • The CL 500 from the C140 chassis also had 235/60R16 tyres in 1998 and 1999.
