History of the Ferrari 308 GTS qv

The Ferrari 308 GTS Quattrovalvole, introduced at the 1982 Paris Motor Show, was a landmark model in the Ferrari 308 series, renowned for its innovative Quattrovalvole engine, which means "four valves per cylinder" in Italian. This crucial development was an answer to the challenging emission control regulations of the time, boosting performance while remaining compliant.

The 308 GTS QV was powered by a 2.9 L (2,927 cc) naturally aspirated V8 engine. For the European market, the engine produced 240 hp (177 kW) at 7000 rpm and 260 Nm (192 lb.ft) of torque at 5000 rpm. The US variants had a slightly lower power output of 230 hp (172 kW). This power was delivered through a rear-wheel drive system and a 5-speed manual transmission. The car's top speed was around 156 mph (251 km/h).

Visually, the 308 GTS QV retained the iconic Pininfarina design language, with the Targa top configuration distinguishing it from the GTB QV variant. Notable updates included a slim louvred panel in the front lid for improved radiator exhaust air exit, a redesigned radiator grille with rectangular driving lights, and power-operated mirrors with a small enamel Ferrari badge. The interior received minor updates like a new black three-spoke steering wheel and an option for cloth seat centres alongside the standard full leather.

The GTS QV stood out for its perfect blend of Ferrari's racing heritage and practicality in a road car. It was appreciated for its balanced handling, impressive power, and the open-top experience it offered, making it a coveted classic among collectors and enthusiasts today.

The Ferrari 308 GTS Quattrovalvole was produced from 1982 to 1985, with a total of 3,042 units manufactured. This production number was significantly higher than the concurrent fixed-roof Berlinetta model.
